

Standard delivered engines to Swallow Sidecar Company (soon thereafter to be known as Jaguar Cars) who build nice sports cars fitted with the Standard engines. John Black, owner of Standard Motor Company, was thinking about how to improve his product-line of cars. In the year 1934 Donald Healey won the Rally of Monte Carlo in his class driving a Triumph Gloria. In the thirties Donald Healey (the latter creator of the Austin Healey) was director of engineering at Triumph motor company. The Dolomite engine was also available with blower (compressor)! In the thirties of the ninetieth century more models followed which were placed higher in the market the Gloria and Dolomite. In the two decades before Triumph had built up an excellent name in the manufacture of bicycles and motorcycles.ĭe Triumph 10/20 was accompanied by the Super 7 in 1927.


Triumph built and marketed their first car in the year 1923 the Triumph 10/20. Separate clip-on side screens can additionally be attached to the doors. It comes with a simple soft-top for weather protection. The TR 3 is a pure two-person roadster, a classic generously giving you the fifties British sports car feeling, rough but honest. Also the fully synchronized TR4 gearbox was incorporated. In 1960-61 the cylinder capacity was enlarged to 2138 cc. In 1957 the car became a wider grille, door handles on the outside and slightly recessed headlamps and was named TR 3a then. The Triumph TR 3 was uprated twice during the entire production period. The TR 3 engine was equipped with two carburettors giving a power-output of almost 100 bhp. The engine was a Standard Vanguard based, cast-iron, long stroke, in-line four cylinder with a displacement of 1991cc. The TR 3 was the first production car, off factory, equipped with disc brakes on the front-wheels. The Triumph TR 3 is a no nonsense sports car very robust, simple and reliable, a true British sports car all over. The headlights are located way up in front of the bonnet looking a bit like frogeyes. Like the TR 2 the TR 3 shows a very remarkable body shape with deep door cut-outs and very nice flowing wing- and tail-lines. The Triumph TR 2 was the first sports car in the long, successful, Triumph TR history ending with the TR 8 in the mid-1980ies. The Triumph TR 3 is the successor of the Triumph TR 2 which was built from the year 1953 until the year 1955.
